Note: All ministers in the parish, especially those ministering to children, must conform to the diocesan policy on Sexual Misconduct and/or Abuse. This policy was adopted in 1990 and revised in 1995 and is binding on all who do ministry in the Diocese of Salt Lake City. The full policy is outlined in the diocesan publication "Pastoral Directives". The preamble to that policy is as follows:
"Consistent with the teaching and example of Jesus, the Church is concerned with the well-being of all people, but she has a special concern for those who are most vulnerable and cannot fully care for themselves. The prevention of abuse, especially that of children in any form, physical, psychological or sexual, is the Church's goal.
"Unfortunately, there are times when an offender may be a representative of the Church. People place in their church leaders a deep moral and sacred trust. That trust must never be violated by any person employed by or volunteering services to the Church. Betrayal of that trust must be dealt with legally and in a swift and compassionate manner for all concerned.
"All persons employed by or volunteering services to the Diocese must comply with applicable church, federal, state and local laws regarding incidents of actual, alleged or even suspected sexual misconduct."
